PIP #1 - Should DAO contribute 180k PLR tokens for a one-off V2 beta testing subsidy?

Summary: Pillar DAO will provide cryptocurrency assets for wallet beta testers to test the new multichain app with Polygon, xDai, and Binance Smart Chain integrations powered by Etherspot. To ensure the UI and connectivity for each chain is tested beta testers will be asked to follow the testing scenario created by Pillar’s QA team. Testers may test on as many chains as they wish.

Abstract: How many beta testers are necessary? According to techbeacon.com, the necessary number of beta testers is dependent on many factors some of which include the project size, team size, and the number of target countries. Based on these factors, 30-50 testers would be appropriate*. (*The development team should have a good idea of how many beta testers they need - I reached out to Kieran to get a number/ballpark from them)

What assets are necessary for testing? Ethereum is a necessity as well as chain-specific assets such as MATIC (Polygon), xDai, and BSC (Binance Smart Chain)

Open Questions
How many assets should be delegated to each tester? Ethereum gas prices range dramatically due to network congestion, currently, a reasonable assumption for wallet deployment costs range from $40 to 200 USD. It is reasonable to provide 30 testers with 300 USD worth of assets for a total of $9,000 investment which represents 0.0009% of the total DAO fund (9,000/100,000,000 x 100%).
(@Aldin can you compare these numbers to your recent testing data?)

Should Pillar DAO provide testing assets for governors to test the V2 app?

This reads like it’s a one-time payment, so what is the date range of testing if we should do another in the future?
These details are ok with me for this proposal.

I think it should be thought of as a one-time thing. If testing is necessary in the future I think we should address it then.

I have voted no on this as I think the remuneration should be done in PLR tokens for bugs submitted that are valid. Not just for testing in general. The costs of testing on side-chains is very very low as transactions fees are low and covering mainnet testing will definitely not be scalable in my opinion.

Having said this, I am not opposed to create a more extensive system where the tester is provided with funding but will have to execute ALL of the test scenarios. Meaning they will have to follow the script to the letter.

But we will need to create a system where testers are signed up to this. I would suggest creating a typeform sign up for this dedicated group of testers who are willing and able to do the testing and who should be provided with funding for htis.

To follow up on this, I propose a two way system:

  1. General Testers: who can have access to the open beta and submit bugs but are not required to follow a script, if bugs are valid, we reward them with PLR tokens ( Open Beta Testing Program - #7 by Aldin )
  2. Dedicated Testers: who are provided with funds and PLR tokens for testing according to the script that we create. Expectation is that they will execute the testing script completely once the OK is giving from the Product team to run a testing cycle. With each testing cycle, we will provide the testers with funding to complete testing. I would suggest we max out this group with 30 testers and ensure that we have sufficient coverage on iOS and Android and different devices.

Part of the reason why I am inclined to vote yes for this one time payment is to help with the fees paid by testers, retroactively. (The high testing fees in the past)
I would most likely not support testing assets in the future if the fees are much lower like @Aldin believes. I also think future testing remuneration should be for real bugs, not general testing; but if the user is expected to follow a long testing script down to detailed steps, then perhaps they should be gifted something for their time. This last part seems to be what Aldin said in the second post.

i vote maybe too quickly yes . Only way to pay people is with PLR ? this tokens will be sell off

We could try to make a survey to know who is interested as governor to test the beta version then

deploy smart wallet for free and give a small amount in usdt to test

Why should people spend their own funds testing Pillar’s product? What’s in it for them? No other industry does this. This is the third time Pillar has wanted testers for free. I personally will not test this product for the third time without company financial support.

If every argument against using the DAO funds is selling pressure we will never use the funds so what’s the point in having them.

The bottom line is if you currently have enough testers this ‘idea’ is not necessary. I was under the impression you did not have enough testers. If you do not have enough people currently testing the wallet then obviously they need an incentive.

I see nothing wrong with Aldin’s idea of having two groups as in a control group that has script and gets funds to use in the test and the other random group that uses personal money to test and get rewarded for bugs etc. I’m trying to figure out if we can implement some type of a competition aspect to this also where those who really put effort into the testing are rewarded in the end.
Regardless I do see value for the project to get testing started ASAP.

i ever pay bunch of fees with previous tests . would not have problem to test thousand times with a decent token price . i m agree with you that it don t make too much sence . i can understand people that pass the turn with actual situation

To limit selling pressure, I would suggest we focus on the dedicated testers for now while we work towards a general open beta testing program as described earlier a bit later. We limit the scope.

Let’s specify the rewards in PLR tokens for time spent on following the test script (It normally takes 2 hours more or less to complete the script). Let’s say 60 USD in PLR tokens in value per test cycle per tester. That’s with a max 30 testers per test cycle 1800 USD in PLR tokens. More or less 45k in PLR tokens at current market value. We expect 4 major testing cycles before the public launch. Allocation is then 180k in PLR tokens from the DAO.

Additionally, QA team will provide funding for testing so there is no sell pressure from the DAO.

If this is agreed, we can start signing up dedicated testing team via TrueForm and create a separate group for this.

It’s healthy for this idea to get refined in such way as it becomes a fully-fledged proposal now - numbers that were missing are filled alongside other gaps. We know how much we need to earmark for this initiative and what is the expected outcome. I see this as progress and that’s thanks to your input @_dj @vmelvin @JayJay @Preston

So now we’re launching a form to register people and their devices and make sure we have good coverage for both iOS and Android. @Luka is on it and will be announcing in the Governors’ House as soon as it’s ready for testers to sign-up.

With these developments, this is set for a Snapshot voting where it will become PIP #1 - Should DAO contribute 180k PLR tokens for a one-off V2 beta testing subsidy? How does this title question sound to everyone here?

And as per Aldin’s suggestion - if this means we can move quicker also on the Open Beta Testing Program - #7 by Aldin proposal, that’s even better for me! :fire:

Seems like a chicken egg problem. We need to pay sometimes to make the wallet better so more people have PLR tokens, but paying could mean they want to sell off some. But if we aren’t willing to spend dao funds, the wallet may not be as good.
Perhaps not all the tokens will be sold, maybe 50%. Most testers are probably long term holders and believers in the project anyway.
@jackbass Nice sounds good
