Strategic PLR Airdrop - Inviting communities to our Governance

Summary: By airdropping PLR to communities that care about open source and user-owned platforms we let the fresh blood into our governance. By having new Governors proposing and voting for initiatives within Pillar Community DAO, we gain the operational experience and understanding of the market we build for.

Abstract: Should this proposal be implemented, the X PLR tokens will be contributed to this initiative. Onboarding the first community will help us validate the model ahead of next airdrops.

Motivation: The aim of the airdrop is to expand our community, especially the subset of Governors who are going to make binding decisions on where the project goes forward. By onboarding those who clearly understand the value proposition of a community-run crypto wallet and are looking to own this key part of their crypto infrastructure, we aim to both increase the Ievel of participation in our community as well as deepen it.

Specification: We will conduct research on the communities that fit our personas’ profiles the most - MetaCartel and RaidGuild can be our models and test cases’ candidates here, but there are many more out there to talk to. Through the direct engagement with community leaders we’re finding the best model for the actual airdrop that will allow their reps become active in Pillar Governance. Next to this, we will work out the cross-promotion plan, assuring that this special partnership is well promoted and presented as a case study to other potentially interested communities. Once all these elements are done and ready, Pillar DAO or Foundation (to be specified for each case) is transferring PLR to the selected community and onboard its reps to the Governors’ House on Discord as well as this Forum.

Another way of achieving a similar result is the token swap which can be conducted with aligned communities that issued a token. We discuss it in another proposal on the forum.

Addresses that use EtherSpot or Pillar wallet can be airdropped an amount of PLR tokens using a snapshot at a date. This idea is similar to UNI airdrop.
This would be airdropping PLR to the PLR community.

If we can decide to do a PLR airdrop to our users, then that’s a good incentive to get people to try out the wallet. After the uni airdrop there’s a lot of people looking for the next airdrop opportunity. If there’s a way to log the action of creating or opening a plr wallet address and maybe performing an in-wallet action than a future plr airdrop could help ease the worries about the high network fee to start it.

I would be in favor of a structured airdrop that promotes etherspot and layer2 projects, wallet / trade platforms. So basically it would be locked up and dropped as a synthetic token for layer2.

Yes, I like Preston’s idea.

I remember that Dfinity hired volunteers to serve the community in 2018. At that time, the community members provided screenshots of the official website registration, Slcak registration, Rocket. Chat registration, Telegram registration screenshots, submitted to the volunteers, volunteer statistics, according to the registration time to evaluate the grade of air drop. The work is done manually. Early Dfinity also used Slcak, Rocket. Chat as a community collaboration platform.Pillar also used Mattermost as a community collaboration platform in its early days. If PLR has airdrops, sign up for Pillar’s time at Mattermist, Telegram, and Discord as part of your rating. You can use spreadsheet statistics to have community members fill out forms and provide screenshots. Those who have been following and supporting PILLAR for a long time should also receive a higher airdrop bonus.

I’d rather see these available funds used to add Pillar to prominent exchanges. :woman_shrugging:
