Discord activity Rewards

Summary: Activity rewards program for Discord which rewards the most active users. Activity will be measured by messages via a Discord bot which can count the amount of messages for each user and determine who is among the most active ones.

Abstract: If this proposal is implemented, the DAO will facilitate 30,000 PLR tokens for the next 3 months rewarding active users on Discord from the DAO Treasury. These rewards will be dispersed at the end of every month.

Motivation: The general idea of this proposal is to increase activity inside our Discord by rewarding active users. This will give users initiative to contribute more and help other users in need, which in exchange will strengthen our community and spread the word about Pillar at a faster rate.

Specification: User activity should be rewarded relative to how active they are and how much their contribution is important to our community on Discord. The plan is 10,000 PLR tokens on a monthly basis. These rewards will be dispersed to the five important contributors on Discord. The amount of tokens will be dispersed according to their place in the leaderboard.

Benefits:

  • Increased activity inside the Discord which makes the community stronger overall.
  • New users who join our Discord will see that the community is active and any question they might have can be answered from other users.
  • New ideas, proposals and news in general are more prominent, giving us a bigger range of choice in terms of new features.
  • All of the above will lead to more exposure, since a more active community is active outside of our Discord and Forum too, which can bring more new users.

I suggest a broader distribution of the 10k. Top 10, maybe even Top 25 e.g. Top 10 gets 70%, the Top 11-25 gets 30%. We need no the winner takes it all mentality. My perspective!

Hey Denis :raised_hands: what about twitter activity ?

There will be something of that kind, this is just for Discord though.

I like this idea, I think we should support top 25 with declining percentage, sounds like a better way to keep people involved.
Having only 5 members win could force some users to spam instead of be naturally involved and have a good time interacting.

I’m glad there are different perspectives than the ones we initially thought of. Having much broader voting than top 5 might cause an issue that some of the winners will receive rewards for hardly contributing since our Discord might not have enough competition for a bigger amount than the ones suggested. In the end, it’s up to you. 4 options are listed below, the one with the most votes will be suggested in our Discord on the Implentation proposal channels.

Poll cancelled because lack of proper information, see poll below

In order to make an educated choice I need some numbers. How many members do we have right now at each contribution level? E.g. only two in level 6, four in level 5, ten in level 4 and so on…could you please give us the info? Additionally we must think forward, more success, more active members…maybe we just say we give rewards to the top quartil. This would address the member growth aspect better…

Ant type of awards is appreciated. What about an end of the year Bonus?

I like this idea. My only question is how do we incentivize new users to be involved. I bring this up because this proposal seems to incentives the top users overall. Maybe resetting the system every month and allocating rewards at the end of each month to the top users of that month? This may incentivize new users to be more involved especially when they see they don’t have to catch up to individuals who have been around years.

We can then market that as a reason to join discord and be involved!

Let me know what you think/if this makes sense!

I deleted my inital soft voting because there was no way for you to know how active our Discord community actually is. My mistake for not informing you sooner about it. I’ve given it a bit more time to see how much activity does the server gather in around 20 days, and the results will be highlighted below:

55 members have sent at least 1 message in the last 20 days
17 members have sent at least 10 messages in the last 20 days
10 members have sent at least 25 messages in the last 20 days
4 members have sent at least 50 messages in the last 20 days
And finally the top 3 members have written more than 100 messages.

This is a basic statistic showcasing activity in general, this does not mean that the most active members contribute the most since this doesn’t measure message quality or importance, but it helps show that rewarding more than 10 active users a month isn’t suitable at all.

My propositon for top 10 stands like this:

1st 2800 PLR
2nd 2000 PLR
3rd 1200 PLR
4th 850 PLR
5th 650 PLR
6-10 500 PLR

This is the general idea since we tried to cover the ground so that users who aren’t active daily can still receive a reward for their efforts. If this proposition is accepted, it will go live in PIP on Discord for final voting. Alternative is top 5 where the 6-10 rewards (2500 PLR) gets dispersed among the first 5 places. Soft-voting for this is open until friday after the community call and the winner goes live for Governance voting.
